This is actually a Vietnam War commemoration song from the movie “We Were Soldiers” but it hits the theme of eternal bliss, and wishing that every hero could be in heaven with us but . . . Even heroism will not buy salvation. We must embrace it as a free gift. I often pray for these young people, who might give their lives for our country someday, to receive His gift while they are able.
I know, Mary. I think of that often and it breaks my heart. We had a Dr friend in Brazil that was always so amazed when a news story hit in Brazil about an incident where Americans had died giving their lives to rescue others. He said, What makes them do that?? A Brazilian never would. Well, I don’t know how true that is but we just told him that it was in our makeup. There was a picture on Facebook a few days ago about Ladder truck 118 crossing the Brooklyn Bridge heading for the towers and it being the last picture taken of that truck (probably) because minutes later they all died saving other people. I had never seen that picture but it is now in my camera roll. It takes my breath away thinking about the horrors and heroism of that day. Facebook needs to be PLASTERED with scenes of that day every year (Although I know it would be painful for many) but we MUST NEVER FORGET! And I know so many already have and some in a new generation have never been told. The horrors were combated by heroism and that’s what keeps us strong!!
Now ya got me all bawlin'. 😢
