After Pastor Alex’s sermon this morning, I went looking for the origin of the above phrase. It seems Nietzche used it first, but since he was not a Christian and I do not know whether he used it to describe Christians, I found another use. Eugene H. Peterson wrote a book with that title forty years ago and apparently it is a classic.
A similar phrase came from Elisabeth Elliott: “Just do the next thing.”
Those two phrases, like Pastor Alex’s sermon, serve as great reminders that a Christian life of faithfulness is built one righteous decision after another. There are no shortcuts to holiness. I loved the reminder today!
P.S. If other people “chew on” the messages all Sunday afternoon and would like to interact on here or privately, I would always appreciate the encouragement. As someone has said, that is one of the beauties of belonging to a church body. We are not alone.
Yes, and to read the book of Samuel eleven over is what I planned to do.loved the message.
