After Pastor Alex’s sermon this morning, I went looking for the origin of the above phrase. It seems Nietzche used it first, but since he was not a Christian and I do not know whether he used it to describe Christians, I found another use. Eugene H. Peterson wrote a book with that title forty years ago and apparently it is a classic.
A similar phrase came from Elisabeth Elliott: “Just do the next thing.”
Those two phrases, like Pastor Alex’s sermon, serve as great reminders that a Christian life of faithfulness is built one righteous decision after another. There are no shortcuts to holiness. I loved the reminder today!
P.S. If other people “chew on” the messages all Sunday afternoon and would like to interact on here or privately, I would always appreciate the encouragement. As someone has said, that is one of the beauties of belonging to a church body. We are not alone.
Yes, and to read the book of Samuel eleven over is what I planned to do.loved the message.
The downside comes from my favorite podcast Bible teacher who cautions us that it is very dangerous to excuse a habitual sin by saying, “I will only do this one more time . . , “ He said since only God is omniscient we have no way of knowing whether our “just this one last time” will make our heart so callous that we will never again care about pleasing the Lord.
We continued to feast on the sermon over lunch today. What a blessing ❤️
